Fatal crash shuts down Norris Freeway, THP identifies driver killed

ANDERSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WATE) – The Tennessee Highway Patrol identified the man killed in a multi-vehicle crash Monday afternoon that had closed Norris Freeway.

Stanley Buckner, 67, of Knoxville died from injuries while another 67-year-old woman in another vehicle sustained injuries. Another driver involved was uninjured, according to the THP crash report.

Buckner had not been wearing a seat belt.

The crash report states that Buckner’s vehicle, a Ford Ranger, was traveling along with the Honda Pilot driver northbound on Norris Freeway (US Hwy 441), while the third vehicle, a Buick Encore, was traveling southbound. The Honda Pilot was turning right onto Hwy 170, when Buckner’s Ford Ranger struck it causing the Honda Pilot to rollover; then Buckner’s Ford Ranger crossed into the southbound lane of travel, striking the Buick Encore head-on.

The driver of the Buick Encore, a 67-year-old Knoxville woman, was injured.

The driver of the Honda Pilot, a 50-year-old Heiskell woman, was uninjured.

Both female drivers of the other vehicles involved were wearing their seat belts.

Earlier Monday, THP had confirmed one fatality following a multi-vehicle crash that had closed Norris Freeway.

The crash occurred Monday afternoon around 3:30 p.m. near Brushy Valley Road and involved three passenger vehicles, according to the Tennessee Dept. of Transportation.
