Again! Philippine and Chinese Ship Crash, 12 People Reported Missing

"When our (team) arrived in the area, they still saw the fishing boat overturned but found no one else," the Investigator quoted Commodore Leovegildo Panopio, commander of the South Coast Guard's Tagalog district, as quoted.

Strong currents disrupted the search on Sunday night but it will return on Monday morning, he said.

On June 9, a Chinese fishing trawler struck and sank a Philippine ship more than 300 kilometers further southwest near Reed Bank, an area in the South China Sea within Manila but also claimed by Beijing.

Vietnamese fishermen rescued 22 Filipinos after the collision, which left President Rodrigo Duterte facing charges of defending Beijing. Duterte has tried to play down the case, calling it an "accident" and accepting Beijing's offer to conduct a joint investigation.
