The Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office is requesting the public’s help in investigating the reported kidnapping and beating of a Ukiah man in Covelo during a marijuana sale.

According to the MCSO, deputies responding to Covelo for an unrelated incident around 4 p.m. March 9 were flagged down by a motorist on Highway 162 who was described as bleeding from the face and covered in blood.

The man, identified only as a 30-year-old Ukiah man, told deputies that he had been assaulted by two men while conducting a prearranged marijuana sale in the area of Main Street and Howard Street in Covelo. The suspects were described only as being men in their 30s.

The victim said that during the initial assault, one of the suspects pulled out a knife and ordered him into the passenger seat of his own vehicle. Then he said he was driven away from the first scene to another location in Covelo, where he was attacked again.

The victim said the two suspects demanded all the money, marijuana and other drugs he had in his possession, then he said he was allowed to leave. As he was fleeing the scene on Highway 162, he flagged down the MCSO deputies. The victim later received treatment at a local hospital for moderate injuries.

The Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office is requesting anyone that might have information regarding this incident to contact the Sheriff’s Office Tip-Line by calling (707) 234-2100, or the WeTip anonymous crime reporting hotline by calling (800) 782-7463.
