Ahmed Janahi and Ali Khonji claimed an important win in group two of the Super Men’s Double division at the BTC Tennis Tournament which was held yesterday in Juffair.
The duo came from behind to beat Ahmed Dhaif and Ahmed Al Ali 4-6, 6-3, 10-8.
Janahi and Khonji had lost the first set and were trailing the second 3-1 before they flipped the table over their opponents to take the game to the tie-breaker set.
“We started the game very slow and the first set was very tough and we lost it. However, we managed to capitalise on our chances and get back into the game,” Janahi said.
Their opponent, Dhaif, seemed unfazed about the outcome, saying that he participates in the tournament just for the fun of playing.
“I don’t mind losing the match. The most important thing for me is that I can still hit the ball as hard as I can to the other side. I play tennis to enjoy and whether I win or lose I’m satisfied,” said a cheerful Dhaif.
The second game of the group saw Ali Al Asfoor and Roy Boutagy record a victory over Nilesh Parmar and Adolf Mendonca 6-3, 6-4.
Asfoor and Boutagy found no difficulty claiming their win as they dominated all aspects of the game.
“It was a comfortable game for us, we never had our serve broken. We hope to keep up the same effort and performance in all our games. We go into every game thinking we can win the title at the end and hopefully we will be able to do so,” said Asfoor.
