The estranged husband of a missing New Canaan woman remains in critical condition at Jacobi Medical Center Wednesday after a suspected suicide attempt with carbon monoxide while out on bond.

Authorities reportedly found Fotis Dulos, 52, sitting in his Chevy Suburban in his garage after he missed a bond hearing Tuesday. His GPS ankle monitor showed he was still at home, Farmington police told the Hartford Courant. Police went to his home and found Dulos sitting in his vehicle with “obvious signs of medical distress” with carbon monoxide detected in the garage.

Dulos had been arrested January 7th on charges he murdered his estranged wife Jennifer Farber Dulos, who has not been seen since May 24th. He was later released on $6 million bond, but faced the prospect of returning to jail because, as the Hartford Courant reported, the South Carolina company that insured the bond was now claiming that the collateral to cover the bond was not sufficient.

He was first taken to UConn Health in Farmington on Tuesday afternoon and later transported to Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx.

At a bond hearing for Dulos today, his attorney said Dulos's condition is "dire."

Dulos's friend and lawyer Kent Mawhinney also had his law license suspended Tuesday by a Hartford Superior Court judge who said Mawhinney could not practice law while in jail on charges he helped Dulos with the murder plans. Mawhinney is currently being held at Cheshire Correctional Institution on conspiracy to commit murder charges.

Dulos and Farber Dulos had been in the middle of a two-year divorce and custody battle over their five children when she went missing -- the last day she was seen, Farber Dulos, 50, reportedly dropped her kids off at school and disappeared, subsequently missing multiple appointments in New York City. Her body has not been found. Her mother Gloria Farber has been granted custody of the children.

Dulos had previously been charged with evidence tampering and hindering prosecution in the case, and his ex-girlfriend Michelle Troconis also faces charges of conspiracy to commit murder.
