Michigan Reports Over 600 New Coronavirus Cases, Over 84K Total

MICHIGAN — More than 84,000 cases of the coronavirus have been reported in Michigan as of Tuesday, according to the most recent data released by state health officials.

Michigan reported 664 new cases of the respiratory virus on Tuesday, bringing the statewide case total to 84,050. The state also reported that eight more people died from the virus, bringing the state's death toll to 6,220.

Tuesday's update comes after Michigan on Monday reported 604 new cases of the coronavirus while adding six more deaths attributed to the virus. On Monday, the state dropped out of the Top 15 states in coronavirus cases.

Michigan ranks 18th in the U.S. in coronavirus cases, according to data gathered and provided by the World Health Organization. The state ranks ninth in the nation in deaths attributed to the virus. It has previously ranked as high as third in the nation in coronavirus deaths.

On Tuesday, health directors in three Michigan counties reported a spike in coronavirus cases among teenagers age 15-19. The spike was related to several large gatherings in the area of South Lyon and Fenton.

The U.S. leads the world in coronavirus cases, according to the World Health Organization, which reports that more than 4.8 million cases of the virus have been reported in the nation. Meanwhile, the group reports over 159,000 people have died in the U.S. from the virus. More than 2.4 million people have recovered from the virus.

Over 18.5 million cases of the coronavirus have been reported worldwide, according to the World Health Organization. The group has also reported that more than 700,000 people have died around the globe from the virus, while over 11.7 million people have recovered from the coronavirus. More than 6 million cases in the world remain active.
