A couple things ...

-- It was just a mid-week non-conference game, and it was on the road, but Oregon State struck out 20 times last night in a 8-7 loss to Nevada in 12 innings. That is not a good look.

The Beavers got a sterling performance from pitcher Dylan Pearce in relief. Pearce worked six innings, struck out eight and allowed just one unearned run -- the game winner in the 12th.

-- There has been much complaining among college baseball coaches and fans about the NCAA Council’s decision not add a third paid assistant for Division I softball and baseball programs.

I think the Daily Star’s Greg Hansen does a nice job of digging into the issue in this column.

For me, the crux of the matter is this: does it make sense to add another paid assistant to a non-revenue sport?

In this story by Bob Lundeberg for The O, Oregon State AD Scott Barnes his explains his vote against the proposal.

The G-T’s Steve Gress also talked to Barnes about his vote.
