The Biotechnology, Sciences and Engineering Building on The University of Texas at San Antonio's Main Campus is one of the three buildings where College of Engineering students take their core courses. The University of Texas at San Antonio College of Engineering

The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) College of Engineering is leading the way in engineering education and research, with ABET accredited programs in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering that have been in place for several decades. The college's two newest degree programs in Computer Engineering and Biomedical Engineering will both undergo the ABET accreditation process in fall 2016. All of our programs offer curricula that combine a strong theoretical background with hands-on experience in excellent labs, with a focus on teamwork and communication skills. With three fully accredited programs, and two more on the way, the UTSA College of Engineering has something for any student considering furthering their studies in the impactful and innovative field of engineering.

The UTSA College of Engineering is growing by leaps and bounds with an enrollment exceeding 3,400 students. And it is not just our student population that is growing; our goal is to hire 13 new faculty members in 2016 alone. Our world-class faculty members hail from such prestigious institutions as Massachusetts Institute of Technology, John Hopkins University, Cornell University, The University of Texas-Austin, Texas A&M, Carnegie Mellon University, Virginia Tech and Rice University. Our professors are citizens of the world, coming to Texas from countries including India, Turkey, China, Egypt, Mexico, Spain and Colombia, just to name a few. Students who choose UTSA have the opportunity to interact one-on-one with top-rate faculty members in both the classroom and in research laboratories, creating an atmosphere that is truly conducive to learning.

In response to our burgeoning student and faculty population, construction of a new 150,000-square-foot engineering and science building will begin in 2017. This state-of-the-art facility includes cutting-edge teaching environments that lead the way for a flipped classroom design. These new spaces will allow our students to focus on project-based learning, where they have the chance to solve engineering problems in a variety of collaborative ways rather than just being observers in a lecture hall. Additionally, there will be incubator spaces where students with an entrepreneurial sprit will have a place for early venture execution within the university or in collaboration with companies. The UTSA College of Engineering supports the successful launch of new technology ventures and helps our students bring their engineering ideas to life outside of the classroom.

This new building complements the facilities that already serve our students including the $84-million, 225,000-square-foot Biotechnology, Sciences and Engineering (BSE) Building that was built in 2006 to support new research initiatives and accommodate enrollment growth. The BSE Building is one of the largest educational buildings in the state of Texas and boasts state-of-the-art research and teaching facilities. In 2010, the 150,000-square-foot Applied Engineering and Technology Building was added and was designed to support world-class research and teaching in science and engineering. The four-floor facility includes 87 faculty offices, 36 laboratories, five classrooms and collaborative study niches.

Cutting-edge research in a wide range of areas such as energy, cloud computing, materials, and biomedicine is federally and state funded at UTSA. The college's research contributes to maintain U.S. competitiveness and security of the state and nation. To aid the economic development of the nation, the college also works closely with industry. It is our goal to have 100% of our students take part in experiential learning outside of the classroom before they graduate so that they can get a feel for what it is like to apply their curricular knowledge to a real-world, engineering experience.

We are committed to providing a top-tier academic educational experience for all of our students, and have the faculty, facilities and support structure to help students succeed during their time here on campus and as they enter their chosen career field after graduation.

For students seeking an exceptional engineering educational experience in one of the most diverse and beautiful cities in the United States, come join the UTSA College of Engineering as we shape the technology of tomorrow.
