Former Ohio State star Jeff Okudah to wear new number this year for Lions

Former Ohio State cornerback Jeff Okudah will have a different look this year when he takes the field for the Detriot Lions. After being selected with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, Okudah traded in his No. 1 scarlet and gray jersey for a No. 30 in blue. But that won’t be the case this year.

Okudah shared via his personal Twitter account that he would be wearing a new number this year, No. 23. The Lions acquired Jamaal Williams in free agency after several productive years with the Green Bay Packers. Williams wore No. 30 for the Pack and asked Okudah if he could have the number, to which Okudah obliged.

The former Buckeye star didn’t live up to expectations in his rookie campaign, but that was mostly due to injuries. He’s now looking for a fresh start and a healthy year to prove the Lions made the right choice.

Speaking to the Detroit Free Press, Okudah shared

“Not necessarily trying to prove everyone wrong, just trying to prove a lot of people right.”

The coaching staff and city of Detroit have to love that kind of attitude. Good luck Jeff… Buckeye Nation and B.I.A. is rooting for you.
