A Costa Mesa jewelry store owner who police said was a victim of kidnapping was found injured and bound with duct tape in Santa Ana early Thursday.

Officers with the Costa Mesa Police Department responded to the 1800 block of Newport Boulevard just before 10:15 p.m. after getting an alarm alert from a jewelry store in the area. On arrival, an officer found that the door was unlocked.

“A search of the business did not reveal any signs of a theft and the safe was secure,” authorities said.

The owner of the store could not be found that night and his family filed a missing person report.

Officials said the owner was found by the Santa Ana Police Department early on Thursday. He was found seriously injured and bound with duct tape, and was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Santa Ana police said it determined that the store owner was the victim of a kidnapping and robbery.

No arrests have been made and no information was immediately available on the identities of descriptions of any suspects.
