KANSAS CITY, Mo. & OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — In this edition of Ask the Experts, FOX4’s Carey Wickersham talks with Dr. Thomas F. Bembynista about the proper ways to take care of your feet and attack nail fungus. Toenail fungus is a very common problem and is difficult to treat with any over-the-counter medication. Oral medications can take significant time and have complications to your liver, and possibly interact with other medications. The success rate is generally around 50%.

New advanced treatments are available with the use of lasers. With the new cutting edge Lunula Laser treatment, nail fungus treatment is easier and more successful. In the past, Dr. Bembynista’s office has used lasers that produce heat to kill the nail fungus with good success. The new Lunula laser is a cold laser. There is no heat production and it uses two different wavelengths with success rates near 90%. The treatment plans involve weekly treatments for four weeks and then follow-up treatments at 90 and 180 days.

The office monitors you for improvement, changes generally occur within the first few months because it does take time for the nail to grow out. Click on this link for more information.
