Anderson County deputies are looking for help from the public to identify a man who was caught on camera abandoning a dog on the side of a rural road.
At about 7 a.m. last Sunday, the man pulled over on the side of McMurtrey Road in Pendleton, opened the tailgate of his truck, pulled a black dog out of the back and drove off, leaving the dog behind.
Deputies said the truck appears to be a red, twin-cab, mid-2000s Nissan Frontier pickup truck with aftermarket rims. It has a black toolbox in the bed and a black bug deflector on the hood, they said.
The dog that was abandoned was recovered and is being cared for at the Anderson County P.A.W.S. Animal Shelter, according to Stephen Combs, public and media relations coordinator for Anderson County Emergency Management.
Workers there are calling her Eliza. They said she is a Labrador Retriever mix, and think she's about 4 years old, Combs said.
Eliza was adopted by a loving family on Friday.
Anyone who recognizes the man or has information about this incident is asked to call the Anderson County Sheriff's Office Animal Control Division at 864-260-5576.
