O'Rourke plans busy first week in his campaign for 2022 Democratic nomination for governor

The El Paso Democrat who announced his intention to run for governor on Monday plans several campaign stops that include Corpus Christi, Abilene, Houston and San Antonio.

AUSTIN — Democratic gubernatorial candidate Beto O'Rourke plans a busy first week on the campaign trail with stops that include friendly turf like San Antonio, Houston and Dallas, toss-up regions like Corpus Christi, and Republican strongholds like Abilene and DeLeon.

The campaign, which officially launched Monday, did not provide exact times and places for some of the planned events, but here is a sample of what is known so far:

Fort Stockton. O'Rourke met with community leaders and health care providers Monday to talk about access to medical care, including how that affects uninsured Texans.

San Antonio. O'Rourke will start his day Tuesday with an 8:30 a.m. event with labor leaders and local activists at the CWA Building, 1027 N. St Mary's St.

Laredo. A 6 p.m. event at Jett Bowl North, 5823 McPherson Road, will focus on Texas' power grid, the COVID-19 pandemic and border issues.

The Rio Grande Valley. Three events are planned over two days. On Wednesday, O'Rourke will meet with the Hidalgo County Health Authority in Edinburg at 3:30 p.m. and with campaign organizers in McAllen at 7 p.m. at The Gremlin, 322 S. 16th St.

On Thursday, he will meet with law enforcement officials in Brownsville at 10:30 a.m. The venue has not been announced.

Corpus Christi. A 6 p.m. event is planned with local residents at a location to be announced.

Houston. O'Rourke plans two events in the state's largest city on Friday. The first will be at the home of a victim of February's winter storm at 9:30 a.m. At 6 p.m., he will meet with residents at Discovery Green Park, 1500 McKinney St.

Dallas. A town hall meeting is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Paul Quinn College, which is the state's oldest historically Black institution of higher education.

DeLeon. O’Rourke will meet with rural health care providers at 12:30 p.m. Monday at a venue to be announced. 

Abilene. At 6 p.m. Monday, he will discuss issues facing rural Texas. The venue's location was not announced.
