Police ID 2 men found dead in a van that crashed into water at Licking and Ohio rivers

Updated, 1:17 p.m. Thursday: Police have identified the two men whose bodies were recovered from a van that drove through a fence into the confluence of the Ohio and Licking rivers.

Timothy Jewell and Blair Couch, both 36-years-old and both from Union Township, were identified as the victims, said Covington Assistant Chief of Police Brian Valenti.

Police said Jewell was driving. 

Previous reporting: The bodies of two men have been recovered Tuesday evening after a vehicle drove through a fence into where the Ohio and Licking rivers meet, police said.

The identities of the men have not been released by authorities and the crash is still under investigation, Covington Police Officer Robert Rose said.

The vehicle was covered by tarps as it was pulled out of the water.

Cincinnati firefighters and Boone County water rescue units were on Riverside Drive in Covington, where witnesses say a van drove through a fence and plunged into the water where the Ohio and Licking rivers meet.

The van went through an iron fence at the sharp turn at Riverside Drive and Shelby Street.

A team was deployed with a rescue boat, according to a tweet from Cincinnati Fire and EMS.

Firefighters were working with a Covington a dive team to the scene before the vehicle was pulled from the water.
