Police are hunting a hit-and-run motorist who knocked an elderly lady off her mobility scooter before driving off.

The woman, said to be in her 70s, was knocked onto the carriageway when she collided with a Mercedes as she crossed Hob Moor Road, Yardley at around 4pm on Saturday, October 12.

The Mercedes, which was possibly an E-Class, drove off in the direction of the Swan shopping centre.

The woman was taken to hospital but was not badly hurt.

The road would have busy with pedestrians and police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with any dashcam footage to contact them.

A force spokeswoman said: “Police were alerted just before 4pm on Saturday (12 Oct) to a hit and run in Hob Moor Road, Yardley, in which a woman in her 70s was struck by a silver car - possibly a Mercedes E-Class - as she crossed the road on her mobility scooter.

“The driver made off from the scene in the direction of the Swan Shopping Centre.

“The lady was taken to hospital for a check-up but is not believed to have suffered any serious injuries.”

The incident happened near Clements Road and traffic was halted in both directions while the emergency services were on the scene. It was shortly reopened.
