Ali Khonji and Ahmed Janahi claimed another tough victory in the men’s super doubles division of the BTC Tennis Tournament 2016 which was held at the Bahrain Tennis Club in Juffair yesterday
Khonji and Janahi racked up their second consecutive win in group two after beating Ali Asfoor and Roy Boutagy 6-4, 5-7 (11-9).
The win came after the duo had beaten Ahmed Dhaif and Ahmed Al Ali in the last round 4-6, 6-3, 10-8 on Sunday.
Janahi expressed his excitement about his team’s chances of winning the title and performing on a top level as he prepares for his games on a daily basis.
Group one saw another tough game with Salman Hassan and Naser Khonji going head to head with Mahmood Janahi and Abdul Rahman Janahi before recording a 6-2, 6-7 (7), 10-6.
The Dawani duo of Nabil and Ali in group two registered a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Nilesh Parmar and Adolf Mendonca, who failed to recover from their earlier defeat in the last round.
In the men’s doubles class, Mohammed Al Mosawi and Husain Al Mosawi downed Faisal Al Sharaf and Mohammed Sharaf in group three 6-2, 6-2.
The match was originally scheduled to take place today, but the teams had agreed to reschedule and play it a day earlier.
The men’s doubles division commences their matches today at 6pm with Ahmed Kayed and Khalid Janahi facing Abdul Rahman Al Thani and Ahmed Al Mahmood. The second game will see Rohit Madan and Rami Mohammed Tahboub face Fathalla Ebrahim and Yousif Khonji while Thahir Shah and Emanuel Nabil Bishay will take on Mohamed Khonji and Isa Al Sammak.
The tournament started on February 29 with the finals taking place on March 13.
The players are pitted in different groups with the top pairings qualifying for the next round.
