An Oglethorpe County man was killed in a one-car wreck Sunday morning in Athens, according to Athens-Clarke police.

Henry Faust, 68, of Veribest Road, Carlton, died at the scene, Athens-Clarke County Coroner Sonny Wilson said.

The wreck was discovered about 11:20 a.m. along Buddy Christian Way, about a half-mile from the Cherokee Road intersection in east Athens.

Police reported that Faust was driving west in a 1999 Nissan Sentra when he topped a crest in the road and appeared to swerve into the opposite lane, where he lost control of the car. Police said the car ran off the road into a ravine and crashed into a tree.

Wilson said a passing pickup driver spotted the car in the ravine and called for help.
