Oregon softball signs 5 in No. 9 ranked 2020 recruiting class

EUGENE — Oregon softball signed five players, including three top 35 prospect, to its 2020 recruiting class on Wednesday.

A quartet of infielders and a pitcher signed with the Ducks, whose 2020 recruiting class ranks No. 9 by FloSoftball.

Right-hander Raegan Breedlove, the No. 15 ranked recruit, has a 0.42 career ERA entering her senior season at Central Valley High (Shasta Lake, Calif.) with 813 strikeouts and only 75 walks. Breedlove, who called Oregon her dream school, also has a career .481 batting average with 26 home runs.

“Raegan has great size and strength for a power pitcher," Oregon coach Melyssa Lombardi said in a release. "She has elite velocity and sharp movement on her ball, and will present a big-time challenge for opposing hitters.”

Tehya Bird (Cloverdale, Calif.), the No. 31 ranked recruit, played club ball with Breedlove. Bird is a shortstop with a career. 720 average with 35 home runs and 138 RBIs with just one strikeout through her junior season at Cloverdale High. She also ha d a 1.36 career ERA with 571 strikeouts.

“As a 9-year-old girl stepping foot on that softball field for my first Ducks camp, I knew that was where I wanted to be,” Bird said in a release. "I had great ambitions to attend Oregon with how successful their athletic program was and still is. From that day forward it was my dream to play softball as a Duck. I fell in love with the campus, the players I would get to call teammates one day and the coaches. I knew Oregon was it, and I am beyond blessed that I am able to make my dreams a reality there.”

Infielder Alyssa Brito, the No. 32 ranked recruit by FloSoftball, is a three-time California all-state honoree. She batted .510 with 12 home runs and 45 RBIs as a junior at Pacifica High and played club ball for the powerhouse OC Batbusters.

“Alyssa is a versatile athlete with a tremendous work ethic,” Lombardi said. "We can put her anywhere on the field defensively, to go along with her power and ability to produce RBIs at the plate for us.”

Second baseman Hanna Delgado also played for the Batbusters club team. She has a .414 career average with 10 home runs and 63 RBIs at Corona High and brings a much-needed lefty bat to the Ducks.

“Hanna is a left-handed hitter who can do it all at the plate, with gap-to-gap power," Lombardi said. "She has an extremely high softball IQ which allows her to be an excellent defender.”

Infielder Gabby Herrera is a .462 career hitter with 13 home runs, 35 doubles and 13 triples at Linden High (Linden, Calif.). Herrera is also a left-handed hitter and can play multiple positions.

“Gabby is a versatile athlete who has the ability to play multiple positions on the field," Lombardi said. “Offensively, she brings power and speed from the left side of the plate.”
