An Upstate man is in jail after he hit another man with a stolen car and then backed up and hit him several more times, according to Ryan Flood, with the Greenville County Sheriff's Office.
Flood said that on Sept. 15 someone called 911 at about 8:20 a.m. to report a body in the parking lot of a Wade Hampton business.
The victim was identified as Jeffery "CJ" Grant.
On Tuesday, deputies arrested Dustin Lyn Hammond, 28, and charged him with murder and grand larceny of an automobile, Flood said.
Investigators said about 1 a.m. on Sept. 15 Hammond and Grant had walked back to the parking lot of Hanover Mortgage from the Intown Suites motel.
They said once in the parking lot, and for unknown reasons, Hammond got inside a 2006 Honda Accord, which was stolen on Sept. 13, and accelerated toward the victim, striking him in the process.
Investigators said Hammond then backed up and proceeded to strike Grant with the car multiple times, resulting in his death.
Hammond is currently in the Greenville County Detention Center.
On Monday, Grant's family released photos of him and told WYFF News 4 that he was a loving brother, uncle and grandson.
