Memphis police responded to a shooting scene in Binghampton early Monday morning, after a victim from the triple shooting arrived at the Tillman precinct.

Police said the victim arrived at the precinct around 5:30 a.m., and told officers he had been shot in the 2800 block of Nathan Avenue.

When police arrived to the scene, they found two other victims, both male, dead from gunshot wounds. Police said they believe the shooter, who was seen running from the scene in red shorts, is known to the victims.

The shooting followed 24 hours back-to-back shootings all on Sunday. In total, five people have been killed in the last 48 hours in Memphis, and three others have been wounded.

One of the victims killed this weekend was a 16-year-old female, police said. No additional information regarding her murder has been released by the police.

Last week, Memphis Mayor Jim Strickland and Memphis Police Department Director Michael Rallings held a joint press conference that discussed the uptick in homicides, particularly among minors.

The press conference occurred on July 8. On that date, homicides were up by 30 percent compared to the same time period in 2019.

Rallings warned citizens that the city was on track to surpass the 2016 record year of homicides — when 228 people were killed.
