Deaths in Minnesota from COVID-19 have reached 2,217, with an additional five reported on Saturday, according to the Minnesota Department of Health.
The state reported another 1,704 confirmed infections, increasing Minnesota’s total number of cases to 121,090. The actual number of cases is likely much higher as the data only represents those who have been tested for the virus, state officials say.
Saturday’s reported deaths consisted of three individuals in their 80s and two in their 70s. The deaths occurred in Becker, Cass, Chippewa, Morrison and St. Louis counties. One was from a long-term care or assisted-living facility.
Of the cumulative deaths in Minnesota, 70 percent have been in long-term care facilities.
A total of 8,801— or about 7 percent — of the overall total of those who tested positive have had to be hospitalized.
Overall, there have been 2,477,132 completed tests in the state.
Nearly 88 percent of those who have tested positive for COVID-19 are no longer in isolation. This number does not include deaths.
