The numbers are in for Wonder Woman 1984.

Nielsen revealed that the movie had the biggest feature film streaming numbers in Nielsen’s rankings over the Christmas week, and became one of the biggest streaming titles of any kind since Nielsen launched streaming measurement, THR reported Friday (January 29).

“For the week of Dec. 21-27, HBO Max users spent 2.25 billion minutes watching Wonder Woman 1984 (it was released Christmas Day). That’s equivalent to about 14.9 million complete plays of the 151-minute movie. It’s also 580 million minutes more than Nielsen’s previously reported No. 1 for the week, Pixar’s Soul on Disney+ (1.67 billion minutes), and the third highest weekly total for any title since Nielsen began releasing weekly streaming numbers in August 2020,” the outlet reported.

“The impact of Wonder Woman 1984 on HBO Max cannot be understated. As was announced on Wednesday during our earnings and as this Nielsen data shows, it was a huge holiday gift to the consumer at a time when they wanted and needed it. This partnership with Warner Bros. of course continues throughout the year but it began with Wonder Woman’s arrival on Christmas Day to great success,” said HBO’s Andy Forssell.

Wonder Woman 1984 achieved some big things!

The film not only topped the box office, but it also helped HBO Max gain tons of subscribers.

Uproxx reports that during its fourth quarter earnings call, AT&T CEO John Stankey defended the controversial decision to release WarnerMedia’s entire 2021 film slate on HBO Max.

The sequel “helped double HBO Max subscriptions (including ‘activations’ by HBO subscribers who log into HBO Max for the first time) during the fourth quarter. The streaming service is now two years ahead of schedule in its quest to build a subscriber base that go toe-to-toe with heavy hitters Netflix and Disney+,” according to the report.

“You’ve seen other studios have continued to snowplow releases in the second half of the year, which cements our view. We’ll see a crowded theatrical field in late 2021 and early 2022. We don’t believe that magically just because there’s more content showing up in theaters all at the same, that’s going to dramatically increase the moviegoing population at that time,” he also said of the decision.

That said, according to a new Deloitte survey via the Los Angeles Times, 46% of subscribers have cancelled at least one streaming service in the past six months, and 62% of those users cancelled because the show or movie they watched was finished. Therefore, it’s becoming harder to retain subscribers who don’t want to stay monthly after seeing their show or movie.

Pedro Pascal is inviting his fans to get in touch with Ted Cruz directly.

The 45-year-old Wonder Woman 1984 actress shared the politician’s Central Texas office phone number on Saturday (January 9) following both the violent U.S. Capitol takeover of Trump supporters earlier in the week, as well as a personal jab from the U.S. Senator regarding the actor’s performance in the new Wonder Woman film.

“Ted Cruz’s phone number to share your thoughts,” he wrote on Twitter. As fans have pointed out in the replies, the number was already made available online and not his personal phone number.

The tweet comes as Pedro voiced disdain for the U.S. Capitol breach: “The world is watching and history is recording. This disgrace will be FOREVER IN THE BOOKS,” he wrote, as well as linking to a list of the Republicans who voted to overturn the election results, including Cruz.

Around Christmas, Ted Cruz also wrote a scathing review of the actor’s performance: “Sadly, yes. Catherine & I watched it last night. Gal Gadot remains terrific, but it’s by far Pedro Pascal’s worst performance. The script, was wooden, formulaic & silly (‘look, a fully-fueled fighter jet just sitting there for us!’). But, watching w/ your daughter is still fun!,” he wrote before the New Year.

Wonder Woman 1984 is hitting some snags.

The movie brought in $5.5 million over the weekend at the box office, according to Deadline on Sunday (January 3).

The film, which is also available on HBO Max for the next 21 days, faced a 67% drop over the previous week, pulling in $28.5 million total at the domestic box office.

“From that kind of drop, it sounds like whatever moviegoing public exists out there finally got the message that they can see the movie at a cheaper price for the family at home on HBO Max. Warners has yet to provide hard numerical details on the spike in subscribers or viewership for WW1984, the outlet reported.

“Box office analysts believe the Patty Jenkins movie will fizzle at around $40M in a domestic marketplace where 60% of all 5.5K theaters are closed,” they added of the theater closures amid the pandemic.

HBO Max is also facing some streaming glitches, especially for the Roku device.

Regardless, fans should be excited: a third Wonder Woman movie is officially on the way!

Demi Lovato watched Wonder Woman 1984 on New Year’s Day and she was hoping the movie would end differently than it did!

The 28-year-old singer took to her Instagram Stories on Friday (January 1) to share a clip of the movie and share the way she wanted the movie to end.

“I need Wonder Woman and Kristen Wiig to be together in this movie.. Please let this be my 2021 happy lesbian ending,” Demi wrote as the caption to her post.

Sadly for Demi, she didn’t get the ending she was hoping for!

A fan defended Wonder Woman 1984 against all of the negative chatter that has been spreading around online and star Pedro Pascal noticed the tweet!

Adam J. Yeend wrote in his post, “I think it’s sad in 2020 that viewers will label a heartfelt homage to past filmmaking as ‘cheesy,’ or that a story that suggests truth and love are something to aspire to as being laughable, or that a film highlighting our own narcissism, megalomania and continual desire for ‘the next best thing’ is labeled as ‘preachy.’ No, not everyone has to like a film but the comments I’m seeing on Twitter and Facebook are a red flag to the state of the world and the human mindset.”

While the film had initial Rotten Tomatoes score of an 86% fresh with days leading up to its premiere, the score has fallen to a 63% when more reviews were added after the release. The audience score currently is sitting at a 72% while the IMDb fan score is a 5.7 out of 10.
