Oskaloosa's Xavier Foster schedules four fall recruiting visits

Oskaloosa's Xavier Foster has scheduled four visits for August through October, his father, DaJuan Foster, told the Register on Tuesday.

The four-star 7-footer is set to visit Iowa State from August 30-Sept. 1. He is then set to be at Virginia Tech from Sept. 11-13 and Providence from Sept. 20-22. Foster is then scheduled to visit Iowa from Oct. 11-13.

Oskaloosa's Xavier Foster (34) gets around Norwalk's Sam Rohrer (33) during their boys 3A state basketball championship game on Friday, March 8, 2019 in Des Moines. Norwalk leads Oskaloosa at halftime 31-30.

There's no visit scheduled for Baylor as of yet, DaJuan Foster said, but they're working on dates when the Bears' staff could do an in-home visit. Foster officially visited Baylor in June.

Foster is considering Iowa, Iowa State, Baylor, Providence and Virginia Tech. He is the Register's top 2020 target for both the Hawkeyes and Cyclones

His Iowa State visit falls on the weekend of Cyclone football team's season-opener against Northern Iowa. Iowa is hosting Penn State at Kinnick Stadium during Foster's planned visit to Iowa City.

Conventional wisdom appears to put the in-state schools in the relative driver's seat. If Foster wants something completely different, Providence can provide that — the Big East can provide that. Unlike his other four finalists, Providence is a basketball school, through and through.

Head coach Ed Cooley has been heavily involved since Providence offered in May, and he has made a strong impression on the family.

Virginia Tech, along with new coach Mike Young, is the latest entrant in the battle for Foster. It can provide something no other school in Foster's final five can: the opportunity to play in the ACC.

Foster averaged 14.4 points and 11.8 rebounds this past season to help lead Oskaloosa to a Class 3A boys' state basketball title.
