Candidates running for the open seat in the 23rd Senate District, which covers parts of San Bernardino and Riverside counties, will participate in a Tuesday, Jan. 28, forum.

The event will be hosted by the American Association of University Women, or AAUW, Redlands Branch and the University of Redlands Public Policy Program. It is set for 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.  in the Casa Loma Room at the University of Redlands, 1200 E. Colton. Ave.

Candidates scheduled to participate are: Republican Rosilicie Ochoa Bogh, a Yucaipa school board member and real estate agent; Democrat Kris Goodfellow, a Redlands business owner; Democrat Abigail Medina, a San Bernardino school board member; and Republican Lloyd White, a Beaumont city councilman. Cristina Puraci, a Republican and Redlands school board member, is unable to attend, an AAUW news release states.

Dorene Isenberg, economics director and the program’s co-director; Renee Van Vechten, political science professor; and Cassie MacDuff, former columnist with The Press- Enterprise and an AAUW member will moderate.

The seat will be open after Sen. Mike Morrell, R-Rancho Cucamonga, terms out.

The district includes all or parts of Banning, Beaumont, Big Bear City and the City of Big Bear Lake, Cedar Glen, Calimesa, Cherry Valley, Crestline, Homeland, Hemet, Highland, Lake Arrowhead, Loma Linda, Menifee, Mentone, Nuevo, Phelan, Pinion Hills, Rancho Cucamonga, Redlands, San Bernardino, San Jacinto, Wrightwood and Yucaipa.

Registration in the district has ticked slightly to the left in recent months, with 35.55% of voters listed as Democrats, 34.41% as Republicans and 23.32% as “No Party Preference.”
