Baseball-themed Frozen Ropes Yogurt in Pensacola does self-serve, fruit juices and açaí bowls

A new family-owned, baseball-themed frozen yogurt shop on East Nine Mile Road is swinging for the fences with its self-serve frozen yogurt station, freshly made fruit juices and its community giveback efforts.

Frozen Ropes Yogurt opened at the end of August in Suite 12 of the plaza at 875 E. Nine Mile Road. Pensacola police officer, Tate High School graduate and former California Angels player David Partrick launched the shop alongside his wife and co-owner, Jennifer Partrick.

"Dave asked me, 'What are we going to do when we retire?' And we were actually watching the show 'Undercover Bosses,' where they were talking about Menchie's, the frozen yogurt store," Jennifer Partrick said, of the new shop's origin story. "And my husband said, 'That's what we need. A frozen yogurt store, and we need it on Nine Mile Road.'"

The Pensacola natives and Molino residents offer a full frozen yogurt bar with 15 rotating base flavors and more than 60 toppings. But their concept doesn't start and end with ice cream alternative products.

"I wanted to offer a little bit more in this area," Jennifer Partrick said. "We do offer the açaí bowls, which I worked really hard to perfect. I feel like it's been very successful. We offer fruit smoothies and an option to add protein (whey) to it, because we have TITLE Boxing Club next to us, so they can come in for a post-workout meal that way."

At least one no-sugar and one dairy-free option is always churning out of the frozen yogurt machines. And every Friday, the Partricks and staff are behind the scenes making fresh, cold-pressed juices out of whole fruits and vegetables.

"We take the whole pineapple, apple, cucumber, whichever, in the cold press," Partrick said. "And those are pressed here fresh every Friday. And that's been a big thing 'cause people are real big on the fresh juices with no added sugar or preservatives."

Decked out in a bright red and sky blue aesthetic, the shop is in the process of starting a "Wall of Fame" that will include signed jerseys, baseball cards and other memorabilia that feature either Partrick, local baseball legends like Travis Fryman or players with whom Partrick played during his five-year stint in the Angels' system, like Angels Hall of Famer Tim Salmon.

Beyond the store's physical appearance, Frozen Ropes keeps the baseball theme tightly interwoven into its community outreach efforts, as well.

All baseball teams in the Northwest Florida area, from tee-ball all the way up to high school, receive 15% off on their team outings to Frozen Ropes, which itself is a baseball slang term for a hard-hit line drive.

Frozen Ropes puts an emphasis on supporting Northeast Pensacola baseball and softball, a youth association that is right in its new backyard on East Nine Mile.

"My husband, my son, they all grew up playing NEP, we have long roots there," Partrick said. "We want to give back to the coaches, and so, the coaches a lot of time will come in after games and buy the players something out of their own pocket. So if the coaches let us know when they come in, they get a 15% off discount. They also, if they want to have a spirit night or fundraiser, we're more than happy to host that and give back to that."

Frozen Ropes also does a 25% discount for active duty or retired law enforcement at all times, discounts for college students every Tuesday and a Big Brothers Big Sisters special that lands all "little" brothers or sisters a free cup of frozen yogurt upon their visits.

"We're from this community, we attend Hillcrest Baptist Church right there," Partrick said Friday while pointing out of the window of her new store. "We want to be able to be part of the community, give back to the community and do special things for the community."

Frozen Ropes is open from noon to 9 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays, noon to 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 to 9 p.m. Sundays.
