All lanes of southbound Interstate 25 were closed between Thornton Parkway and 84th Avenue for several hours on Thursday. The freeway was reopened around 2:40 p.m.
The closure was the result of a major traffic accident and fuel that spilled onto the interstate, police said in a tweet.
Police asked drivers traveling on I-25 south to find alternate routes such as Washington Street or Huron Street. Broomfield police suggested drivers use the Boulder Turnpike for their travel.
