Miami Dolphins name new running backs and strength coaches

PUBLISHED: | UPDATED:

A day after introducing Brian Daboll as the new offensive coordinator, the Miami Dolphins announced two more additions to their coaching staff.

Jeff Nixon was named running backs coach, replacing James Saxon, who was relieved of his duties.

Darren Krein, a former linebacker and defensive end for the University of Miami, is the strength and conditioning coach. He replaces Evan Marcus, who left the team to return to the University of Virginia where he coached from 2003-06.

Krein played for the Hurricanes from 1989-93 and was unanimous first-team All-Big East as a senior. He recorded 190 career tackles and 17.5 sacks at UM.

Krein was an assistant strength coach for the Seattle Seahawks from 1997-98 for coach Dennis Erickson, who coached Krein at Miami, and again from 2001-09.

Nixon spent the previous four seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles coaching staff working with special teams and running backs. Prior to his time with the Eagles, Nixon spent the 10 years in the college ranks, including stints at Penn St. and Temple, during new Hurricanes coach Al Golden’s first year with the Owls.

Nixon began his collegiate playing career as a running back at West Virginia from 1993-94, before transferring and playing at Penn State in 1996.
