Pennsylvania Coronavirus Death Toll Passes 7,400

HARRISBURG, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Health on Thursday reported 991 new positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the statewide total to 122,121. Of the total cases, 78 percent of patients have recovered.

Also Thursday, officials reported 24 new deaths. There are now 7,409 total deaths attributed to COVID-19 in Pennsylvania.

Among the counties with the highest number of new cases are Allegheny, where there was an increase of 114, and Philadelphia, where there was an increase of 192 cases.

Here are the counties with the highest number of cases since the onset of the pandemic:

  • Philadelphia: 27,177
  • Montgomery: 10,264
  • Delaware: 9,496
  • Allegheny: 9,192
  • Bucks: 7,318
  • Lancaster: 6,099
  • Chester: 5,213
  • Lehigh: 5,036
  • Northampton: 3,982
  • York: 2,751

"The mitigation efforts in place now are essential as the new school year approaches and we work to ensure our children can get back to learning,” Secretary of Health Rachel Levine said in a Thursday news release. “Wearing a mask, practicing social distancing, and following the requirements set forth in the orders for bars and restaurants, gatherings and telework will help keep our case counts low."
