Marienville, PA, September 8, 2021 - The US Department of Agriculture, Forest Service is accepting public comments on a proposal to expand parking at the Irwin Run Canoe Launch, redirect traffic through the parking area, establish an outfitter-guide drop-off zone, replace the toilet, and enhance the canoe access at the launch located in Warrant 3728, Spring Creek Township, Elk County, Pennsylvania.

The Forest Service also proposes to remove a large culvert on Irwin Run associated with the abandoned Clarion River Railroad and place large wood into Irwin Run. Culvert removal and the large wood introductions will restore the stream channel and floodplain functions resulting in a passage for aquatic organisms and reduced flooding. The Forest Service also proposes to install two additional interpretive signs to mitigate any adverse effects to the historic Irwintown site from the proposed activities.

For more information, a scoping document is available for download at https://www.fs.usda.gov/project/?project=60626. Printed copies are available upon request. Comments may be submitted at any time but would be most helpful if received by October 8, 2021.
