Alger, Evelyn Ann (Schliep) age 73, of St. Peter, Minnesota passed away on Saturday, August 1, 2020 after a long battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP). Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 7, 2020, at the Church of St. Peter in St. Peter, Minnesota with visitation from 9 a.m-11 a.m., at the church as well. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery immediately following the service. Born to Florence Wagner in Aberdeen, SD, on February 7, 1947, she was given the name Norma Jean Wagner. Soon after her birth, she was adopted by John and Esther Schliep and was given the name, Evelyn Ann Schliep. Evelyn was baptized and confirmed at St. Helena's Catholic Church in Ellendale, ND. She attended a one-room school house in Brown County, SD, and graduated from Forbes (ND) High School in 1965. She enjoyed living on the farm and riding horseback. A hard worker, Evelyn earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education in three years from the University of North Dakota - Ellendale. She met her husband, Lee in college and they were married in 1968. Evelyn had a deep, life-long devotion to her faith and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, which she considered to have been her true calling. She was proud to be an educator in North Dakota, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. Evelyn's hobbies included sewing, quilting, having coffee and sharing phone calls with friends, and decorating her many homes. Evelyn is survived by her husband, L. Lee Alger; son, Scott and his wife Ann of Watertown, MN (Ryne and fiancé, Kaylee, and Riley); son, Steve and his wife Chelsea, of St. Peter (Signe and Isaac); daughter, Ann and her husband Brian, of St. Peter (Ian, Reid, Sean and Marie). Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents, John and Esther Schliep and grandson, Elliott (Ann and Brian). Arrangements by St. Peter Funeral Home of St. Peter, MN.
