Biometrica launches continuous background check software with facial recognition

Biometrica Systems has launched a new software product with biometric facial matching to provide continuous criminal background checks and notify organizations in near real-time when an employee has potentially been arrested, according to a company announcement.

Possible arrest alerts are delivered by eMotive in an encrypted message typically within 1 to 24 hours of an incident, and within minutes of an update to law enforcement databases. A list of employees, contractors, or others who have given written permission to the organization is uploaded to an encrypted silo to be compared with Biometrica’s law-enforcement sources multi-jurisdictional criminal database. Access to the data is available only to preauthorized personnel, and is tracked and audited to protect personally identifiable information (PII). False positives are avoided with facial recognition augmenting text data to screen out people with the same name as an employee.

“People travel across city, county, state and national boundaries. Crime travels. Information doesn’t travel as easily, and access to information that could be significant isn’t always available to organizations in real-time. eMotive changes all that,” said Biometrica CEO Wyly Wade.

“It allows organizations that fall under the critical infrastructure umbrella and have mandatory self-reporting requirements, or others that do annual background checks even now but are increasingly finding that a single or point-in-time background check isn’t enough in a multi-threat environment, to be able to really do whatever they can to put the safety of their employees, customers and visitors first,” he adds.

Most biometric background check systems, such as the one launched in August by First Advantage in partnership with Tascent, feature fingerprint scanning to perform a check at a certain point in time.

Biometrica integrated its UMbRA law enforcement-sourced database with VSBLTY VECTOR for an entertainment venue security product earlier this year.
