DARIEN, IL — The four main local districts — Hinsdale High School District 86, Downers Grove High School District 99, Darien School District 61 and Cass School District 63 — are planning to start the school year remotely.

Area school districts have decided lately on how to handle their classes in light of the pandemic. Teachers unions have pressed for more remote learning, while vast majorities of parents surveyed in some districts have supported at least some in-person lessons.

Of the Darien-area districts surveyed by Patch, nine are planning remote instruction, seven are offering a blend of in person and remote and two are planning in-person lessons. A remote option is offered in all districts.

Here is how the districts near Darien are planning to start the new school year:

  • Remote: Butler District 53, Elmhurst District 205, Hillside District 93, Lyons High School District 204, Maercker District 60, Westmont District 201
  • Hybrid: Burr Ridge-based District 180, Hinsdale District 181, La Grange District 102, La Grange District 105, La Grange Highlands District 106, Pleasantdale District 107, Western Springs District 101.
  • In Person: Center Cass District 66, Gower District 62
