Michigan football without WR Roman Wilson vs. Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. — The Michigan football team will be without one of its best receivers Saturday night against Nebraska as an already thin position group gets thinner.   

Sophomore wideout Roman Wilson suffered an undisclosed injury and will not play, according to the U-M athletic department. He was injured during the win over Wisconsin last week. 

Wilson played a pivotal role during the victory over Wisconsin as he cemented his place as the No. 2 receiver behind Cornelius Johnson. He finished with six catches for a career-high 81 yards to lead the Wolverines’ wideouts. It was the first time Wilson made consistent contributions for offensive coordinator Josh Gattis, other than jet sweeps, push passes and reverses.

SCOUTING REPORT:Michigan football vs. Nebraska

The absence of Wilson places an even larger burden on quarterback Cade McNamara, who was searching for a reliable target opposite Johnson, the team’s most dangerous receiver. Fellow wideouts Mike Sainristil, A.J. Henning and Daylen Baldwin are the most likely candidates to replace Wilson’s production. True freshman Andrel Anthony, a player the coaching staff wants to see on the field more frequently, could also play a larger role against the Cornhuskers.  

Wilson has nine catches for 145 yards and two carries for 53 yards on the season.
