With the weather heating up and daylight savings right around the corner, you’re no doubt starting to turn your attention from coats and knits to shorts and sandals. While swimwear can be a pain to shop for, sunglasses are less so. If a new pair of shades are on your warm-weather wish list, look no further than Alias Mae’s maiden collection.

Teaming up with AM Eyewear, the Melbourne based brand has branched out from footwear to focus on what you’re wearing on your face.“Eyewear has always interested me. There is a lot to learn about the design process and what goes into it as it’s very different from the shoe game,” founder Tom Kirkhope tells Broadsheet.

Launching just the one style (a bold square cat-eye frame) the sunglasses will be available in three classic colourways - black, bone and tortoiseshell. “The design process itself wasn't too long. The style and shape is something I have been drawn to for a while so that was the easy part. The longer process was having to go through the different acetates and selecting the perfect materials and colours to use for the frames,” Kirkhope explains.

After striking up a friendship with AM Eyewear’s founder, Kumar Ponnusamy, the pair decided to forge ahead and work together. “Kumar and I share the same philosophies when it comes to our brands and the quality of our product is particularly important to us. We both share the same values of always providing our customers with a premium product, all while keeping it edgy and fashion-conscious.”

Launching in October, the frames will retail at $250 a pair and will be available to purchase online.
