WCSO: 16-year-old faces felony charges after shooting at car with BB gun in Miramar Beach

MIRAMAR BEACH — A 16-year-old boy was arrested Thursday after he allegedly shot at a vehicle with a BB gun multiple times while chasing the driver along U.S. Highway 98.

The Walton County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from the victim early Thursday morning from an emergency room in Destin, according to a WCSO news release. No injuries were reported.

The victim reportedly told deputies that several shots had been fired into the windshield of the vehicle on Forest Shore Drive in Miramar Beach. The suspect then followed the victim and shot at the car several times along U.S. 98, the WCSO reported.

When the victim reached the emergency room in Destin, the suspect reportedly shot out the back window of the vehicle. The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office helped find the suspect vehicle at a Circle K store on Scenic Gulf Drive.

The 16-year-old was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated assault, shooting a deadly missile and one count of domestic violence.

In Florida, shooting a deadly missile is a second-degree felony punishable by up to 15 years in prison. A deadly missile can be anything that is capable of producing great bodily harm, according to state statute.

Two teens were arrested by the WCSO in July of last year after shooting at pedestrians along County Road 30A with a BB gun. One of the victims in that incident suffered a significant injury to his eye that left him partially blinded.
