Alachua County School Board member Mildred Russell requests investigation into Superintendent Simon’s certification

ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. (WCJB) - Alachua County School Board Member Mildred Russell is asking the board attorney to look into Superintendent Carlee Simon’s certification and whether she is in breach on contract.

Simon’s contract requires her to maintain and keep a valid certification in administration and supervision. She is also required to immediately notify the board of any changes.

School Board Attorney David Delaney sent out a memo in which he states he “did not believe” Simon breached her contract for “several reasons.”

Simon’s FDOE certification expired in 2013; however, Delaney wrote the superintendent disclosed this fact in her resume, so there was not a change in status.

“Clearly this is a non-issue,” said Superintendent Simon in a written statement, “It has been promoted by a small group of citizens who are opposed to the district’s strong stand on masks and other strategies for limiting the spread of COVID-19 in our schools and community.”
