Illinois House Minority Leader Jim Durkin is being called out by a fact checker about his claim that there are parts of Interstate 80 that are too fragile for school buses to cross.
Politifact rated that statement “mostly false” saying the Department of Transportation has given a bridge along the route a low rating, but knows of no ban on the crossing.
Severe weather rolls through again
Illinoisans again saw a weekend with severe weather.
A round of storms that rolled through central and northern Illinois even created a tornado near Sawyerville that caused minor damage. In Kankakee County and the surrounding region, heavy rains on Saturday night and Sunday morning caused minor flooding.
Higher gas in Illinois could help Indiana stations
Illinois’ plan to double the state’s motor fuel tax will help gas stations in Indiana.
That’s what Patrick DeHaan with GasBuddy told the Indianapolis Business Journal.
With Illinois’ gas tax at 38 cents per gallon, he and another industry advocate say it will further incentivize drivers to cross the border to save a couple of bucks.
The state Legislature voted to increase the gas tax during its recently concluded spring session. The hike will go into effect on July 1 and raise the tax from 19 cents to 38 cents per gallon. The increase will put an end to a recent downward trend in gas prices, as local costs have slipped to the $2.30 per gallon level in recent days.
