A former convenience store employee in Madrid has been charged with theft after state investigators said she stole lottery tickets worth thousands of dollars from her workplace. The Iowa Department of Public Safety said in a news release that 21-year-old Taylor Wiese, of Madrid, was charged with four counts of theft of a lottery ticket, a Class D felony, and one count of second-degree theft, also a Class D felony.The Iowa Lottery conducted a routine audit Sept. 7 of a pull-tab machine at a Git-N-Go store in Madrid. The audit revealed that $3,500 worth of pull-tab tickets were missing. Madrid police identified Wiese as a suspect in the theft. According to online court documents, Wiese admitted to authorities that she stole a large number of pull-tab tickets while she was employed at the convenience store. Wiese waived her right to a speedy trial, and a pretrial conference is scheduled for March 12 at the Boone County Courthouse.
