Serial killer Bruce McArthur photographed victims with coats, hats and cigars, court told

A serial killer photographed his victims after murdering them and dressed some in fur coats and hats with cigars in their mouths, according to prosecutors in Canada.

Bruce McArthur also shaved them after their deaths and kept some of the hair as well as holding onto their items, a court heard.

His sentencing hearing is taking place this week in Toronto after he pleaded guilty last month to eight counts of first-degree murder.

The 67-year-old landscaper sexually assaulted, killed and dismembered men he met in the city's Gay Village over seven years.

Several were strangled and he hid the remains in plant pots at a property he used for his gardening business.

McArthur faces a potential sentence of life in prison with no chance for parole for 25 years or more.

Prosecutors have found images on his electronic devices including after-death photos of six of the eight victims.

A USB drive contained a directory with nine subfolders - eight for the men he killed and the ninth for the man found at the time of his arrest, prosecutor Michael Cantlon said.

The images have not been shown to the court.

But Mr Cantlon said: "Victims were posed naked, with cigars in their mouth, shaved, and/or made to wear a fur coat and hat."

He also said police found a naked man handcuffed to the bed when they raided McArthur's home and arrested him on 18 January last year.

He said police moved in when they realised McArthur had someone in his home.

The man, who survived, was identified only as Middle Eastern and named "John".

McArthur has pleaded guilty to killing Mr Kinsman, Selim Esen, Majeed Kayhan, Dean Lisowick, Soroush Mahmudi, Skandaraj Navaratnam, Abdulbasir Faizi and Kirushna Kanagaratnam.

Mr Cantlon said McArthur has shown some remorse by pleading guilty to the charges. He said there is no evidence McArthur has murdered anyone else.
