SAN JOSE – Authorities on Thursday afternoon were investigating a smash-and-grab robbery at a San Jose mall.
The incident was reported at about 2:50 p.m. at Quick Service Jewelry Design in the Eastridge Center.
Four masked suspects entered the business and smashed display cases with hammers, according to the San Jose Police Department. They ran into the parking lot before officers arrived.
No injuries were reported.
Police said the suspects took several items, though a dollar amount was not immediately available.
The Bay Area has seen a spike in smash-and-grab robberies and organized retail thefts in recent weeks. On Nov. 23, two men were arrested on suspicion of stealing thousands of dollars worth of merchandise from stores at the Oakridge and Valley Fair malls in San Jose.
Luxury retailers in San Francisco’s Union Square and a Nordstrom store in Walnut Creek have also been targeted. In the latter case, a group of 90 people stormed the store and took $100,000 in merchandise in one minute before escaping in dozens of vehicles.
Units are currently investigating a smash and grab robbery that occurred at the “Quick Service Jewelry Design” store located within the Eastridge mall.
