Asheville Police investigate body found near French Broad River

Asheville Police are investigating  the circumstances surrounding a body found the morning of Nov. 16 near the French Broad River.

Police spokeswoman Christina Hallingse said police received a report of a deceased person in the area of Emma Road and responded this morning.  

"The medical examiner arrived on scene and an autopsy is scheduled for later this week," Hallingse said.

The scene was cleared by noon.

Hallingse would not say if police know the gender or approximate age of the person found, or if they believe the person was the victim of a crime.

"This incident remains under further investigation," she said.
