Crestwood’s Molly DeMarzo captured first place, finishing her career undefeated in cluster meets, as the Comets defeated Holy Redeemer 17-39 Wednesday in the battle of the final two unbeaten teams in Wyoming Valley Conference girls cross country.

Crestwood also defeated Hanover Area and Nanticoke Area by 15-50 scores. DeMarzo finished the race in 19:33, 10 seconds ahead of teammate Ella Novelli. Maggie Kozich gave the Comets a sweep of the top three spots. Ellie Kozich (6th) and Emily Leicht (7th) also had top-10 finishes.

Redeemer picked up wins against MMI Prep 17-47 and Hazleton Area 22-39. Lexi Marcinkowski led the Royals by placing fifth. Emily Lehman was eighth and Kyra Hayden ninth.

Hazleton Area defeated Hanover Area 18-42 and Nanticoke Area 15-50. Jillian Wolk finished fourth for the Cougars.

MMI Prep defeated Hanover Area 25-32 and Nanticoke Area 15-50. Mary Kate Kupsky led the Preppers with a 10th-place finish.

Dallas dominates cluster meet

Dallas captured the top four spots to post wins of 15-46 over Pittston Area and 15-50 over Wilkes-Barre Area, which didn’t enter any runners.

Madison Hedglin led the field followed by Dallas teammates Sarah Williams, Julianna Sobocinski and Olivia Thomas. Mikayla Miller was sixth.

Pittston Area defeated Wyoming Area and Wyoming Seminary by 9-12 scores. Ali Butcher finished seventh and Molly Fetchko was eighth for Pittston Area.

Seminary and Wyoming Area both defeated WBA 15-50. Annabel Dobash led Seminary with a fifth-place showing. Amelia Golden led Wyoming Area with a ninth-place finish. Holly June was 10th.

Berwick, Lehman win two each

Lake-Lehman posted wins of 17-44 over Berwick and 16-44 over Wyoming Valley West. Berwick defeated Valley West 16-20 and Tunkhannock 15-50.

Hannah Sayre placed first for Lehman. Alana Palmaioli was second and Kendall Borger third. Berwick’s Jaida Geiser was fifth overall. Valley West’s Jade McKenna placed sixth.

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

Three teams pick up two wins

Bryce Phillips led all runners to the finish line to help Dallas defeat Pittston Area 18-45 and Wilkes-Barre Area 15-50. Aiden Carter was third for Dallas. Ben Bradley (6th), JT Wysocki (7th), Ryan Borton (8th) and Peter Federici (10th) all placed in the top 10 for the Mountaineers.

Wyoming Area downed Pittston Area 21-36 and WBA 15-46. Patrick Branley paced the Warriors with a fifth place.

Wyoming Seminary topped WBA 17-45 and Pittston Area 25-32. Jack Novelli finished second overall for Seminary. Pittston Area’s Preston Klem was fourth overall.

Crestwood tops Redeemer

Crestwood defeated Holy Redeemer 25-30 in a battle of unbeatens and also defeated Hanover Area 15-50.Nash Green finished second and Weston Medvetz was third for Crestwood. Jack Scanlan (5th), James Modrovsky (8th) and Ryan Kozich (10th) also finished in the top-10 for the Comets.

Tommy Brady placed first to help Redeemer defeat MMI Prep 19-44 and Hazleton Area 15-48. Aiden McDonald was sixth, Grant Smith was seventh and Donato Strish was ninth for the Royals. Prep’s Woobie Kupsky was fourth overall.

Hazleton Area defeated Hanover Area 17-45. Nick Hebel was 12th to pace Hazleton Area.

Lehman wins four races

Nick Hockenbury placed first while teammates Casey Weaver. Michael Serafin and Will McCarroll placed fourth through sixth as the Black Knights defeated Berwick 22-33, Wyoming Valley West 16-47, Northwest 19-43 and Columbia-Montour Vo-Tech 15-50.

Berwick picked up wins of 20-35 over Tunkhannock and 20-35 over Valley West. Mattocks Shultz was third for the Dawgs. Michael Evans raced to ninth and Dante Tripp was 10th. Tunkhannock’s Brendon Yatsko was eighth.

Valley West defeated Northwest 23-37. Nick Rosseau was seventh for Valley West. Northwest’s Oliver Heintzelman placed second overall.

FIELD HOCKEY

Lackawanna Trail 3, Wyo. Val. West 1

Dariane Jones and Emily Beemer scored second-half goals as the Lions defeated Wyoming Valley West.

Lena Ryon scored Trail’s first goal. Lauren Fahey had two assists.

Laila Zdanczewicz scored off an assist by Georgia Tsioles to allow the Spartans to tie the score 1-1 at halftime.

Wyoming Seminary 2, Lake-Lehman 0

Maddie Olshemski scored in the first and fourth quarters for the Blue Knights. Ella Barbacci assisted the first goal.

Goalie Laine Cabell made 10 saves. Lehman goalie Faye Post stopped 13 shots.

Wyoming Area 2, Wilkes-Barre Area 0

Bianca Pizano and Toni Minichello scored unassisted goals for Wyoming Area in its win over the Wolfpack.

Pittston Area 7, Hanover Area 0

Kassie Kobi and Bella Giardina each scored twice for Pittston Area.

Maddie Karp scored the game’s first goal. Morgan Hilbert and Jess Kobi also scored for the Patriots.

Hazleton Area 6, Dallas 0

Emily Ledger scored two goals and Mia Dremock added a goal and an assist in Hazleton Area’s victory.

Wyoming Area 9, Hanover Area 0

Hannah Fairchild scored four times and Anna Wisnewski added three goals for Wyoming Area.

Halle Kranson and Emily Kostik also scored for the Warriors.

Nanticoke Area 2, Hazleton Area 0

Alexis Atkins scored her 50th career goal in the first half and added another in the second half as Nanticoke Area shut out Hazleton Area.

Nanticoke Area keeper Kaleah Moran made 14 saves.

Dallas 7, Pittston Area 0

Caelan Gallagher scored three goals for Dallas. Megan MacNeeley scored twice and assisted two of Gallagher’s goals.

Olivia Maniskas also scored two goals for the Mountaineers.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Berwick 3, MMI Prep 0

Berwick defeated MMI Prep 25-17, 25-12, 25-11.

For Berwick, Morgan Nevel had 10 aces, 12 service points, two kills, 23 assists and six digs. Cecilia Isenberg had four aces, eight service points, 15 kills and seven digs. Kaylee Hacker had six aces, 13 service points, three kills and one block.

Lake-Lehman 3, Tunkhannock 0

The Black Knights won 25-18, 25-9, 26-24.

Kirsten Finarelli (4 blocks, 4 kills), Ella Wilson (4 blocks 5 kills), Déa Middleton (9 kills) and Hailey Corey (16 assists, 11 points, 4 aces) led Lehman.

Pacing Tunkhannock were Lorelai Paxton (13 service points, 3 aces, 13 digs, 3 kills, 1 assist), Julianna Roote (7 kills, 2 service points, 1 ace, 3 digs) and Elaina Kulsicavage (14 assists, 6 service points, 2 kills, 1 block, 2 digs).
