Inside Susan Boyle’s ‘normal’ life with a modest house, a secret crush on Piers Morgan and driving lessons

SHE may be worth an impressive £22 million but Susan Boyle is the queen of keeping it real.

Over the years the 58-year-old has kept her feet well and truly on the ground – staying in her childhood home, being careful with money and speaking honestly about dating - despite finding worldwide success thanks to her incredible singing talent.

Susan, who is currently promoting her upcoming Ten Tour, rose to fame after appearing on Britain’s Got Talent in 2009 and has gone on to sell more than 25 million albums – but still lives a “normal” life.

We take a look at what makes Susan one of the most relatable stars around, starting with the fact she famously still lives in the house she grew up in.

That doesn't mean Susan hasn't spent a bit of her money on transforming the former council house in Blackburn, West Lothian, fitting it with a sleek, modern kitchen and a cosy living room – but it still remains very modest.

She recently explained her decision, telling OK!: "It’s to do with the memories of your house and your upbringing, you need to take stock of things and maybe see where you come from and where your roots lie.

"It’s best to be grounded and with your roots. It keeps you grounded and prevents you from saying things maybe you shouldn't say."

Keeping grounded is something that is clearly very important to Susan and unlike other wealthy stars, she has always remained very careful with her money.

In fact she rarely splashes the cash – admitting the priciest items she has bought are a fur coat, piano and bike, which she is yet to use.

The busy star also revealed she’s spent some of her cash on driving lessons but hasn’t passed her test just yet.

And just like the rest of us Susan has always been very honest dating disasters and even has the same weird crush as so many – Piers Morgan!

Susan recently revealed her last date as around six years but hilariously resulted in her team thinking she had been kidnapped.

Explaining how she rarely gets time to meet men due to her high flying career, she said:  “I haven’t got the time. It is still nice to be asked though. I had a date in America six years ago, which lasted exactly 45 minutes.

“I went for a massage in the spa of a hotel and met a doctor and then we went out for lunch. I didn’t tell anyone and my team thought I’d been kidnapped.

“They were really panicking because I had a show that night. The guy was nice, but he wasn’t for me. I couldn’t be dealing with keeping up with the correspondence.”

The Scottish star has also made no secret of fancying Piers – who she first met when she auditioned for BGT.

She gushed: “Now who wouldn’t like Piers Morgan? I took one look at him on Britain’s Got Talent and said, ‘I want you mate. I want you - come this way, Piersy Baby’.

“He’s a good laugh - he joins in. And he’s very clever too.”

“And gorgeous? You took the words right out of my mouth!”

Susan's Ten Tour starts on February 18 at SEC Armadillo in Glasgow.
