Glela F. Sharp, nee Houmes, 94 of Chicago and formerly of Hoopeston, died Jan. 25, 2007 at the Gilman Nursing Center in Gilman, IL. Born Nov. 18, 1912 in Prairie Green Township, IL, daughter of Date A. and Mary, nee Tilton, Houmes. She was married to Sigmund Schein and later married Harry Sharp (d.1980). She is survived by two siblings, George Houmes and Marjorie Crotts; one daughter, Susan Schram; five grandchildren, Barbara, Joanne, and Michael Kavadias, William Matsunaga, Valerie Scruggs; three stepgrandchildren Egon and David Schein, Susan DiManno; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews including Gayle Rush, Dan and Chip Houmes, Mary Susan Russo, Lisa Bigley, numerous extended family, spouses, and friends around the world. Mrs. Sharp led a colorful and interesting life; attending college, working in the arts, sales, and education. She was very active in Women in Agriculture and numerous community organizations in Chicago as well as a poetry group. She was loved by many and was the recipient of the Brotherhood Award (1959) from the National Conference of Christians and Jews. Funeral services for Mrs. Sharp will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, Jan. 29, 2007 at the First Presbyterian Church, 915 E. Orange St. in Hoopeston. The Rev. Ann Schwartz will officiate. Visitation will be 1 to 3 p.m., on Sunday, Jan. 28, 2007 at the Brown Alkire Funeral Home, 309 E. Washington St. in Hoopeston. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Hoopeston.
