Coronavirus deaths surpass 2,500 in Florida with more than 57,000 cases reported

State figures released Tuesday show 2,530 people in Florida have died from the new coronavirus — an increase of 70 people in one day.

The number of people catching the virus rose over one day, too: The figures show 57,447 people in Florida have contracted the new coronavirus.

That’s an increase of 617 people from figures released Monday.

The Department of Health reports released show:

Miami-Dade County, the Florida coronavirus hot spot, has had 18,224 cases Tuesday, an increase from 18,139 cases the day before. The number of deaths in Miami-Dade, 722, is higher than the 702 deaths reported the day before.

Broward has had 7,248 cases Tuesday — an increase from 7,196 cases on Monday. There are 317 deaths that have been reported.

Palm Beach County has had 6,219 cases Tuesday — an increase from 6,135 cases the day before. The deaths rose overnight to 351 deaths although the number had stayed unchanged at 337 deaths for two days.

U.S., global view

The coronavirus death toll in the United States was at 105,192 on Tuesday morning, an increase from 104,399 deaths the day before.

New York remains the nation’s hot spot with 371,711 cases and almost 30,000 deaths. The country’s total number of cases is more than 1.8 million.

Globally, there are more than 6.3 million cases, and more than 376,000 deaths.
