Big Red wins two duals, falls in regional semi
BEACHWOOD — After blanking host Beachwood, 77-0, and rallying past Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy, 36-34, the Steubenville’s run at the OHSAA Division II Region 12 Dual Tournament came to end with a loss to eventual region champion Louisville in the tournament semifinals on Saturday.
The win over Beachwood in the first round produced seven Big Red pins and a tech fall, and six forfeits yielded a near-perfect showing for Steubenville in its opening match.
Steubenville would come from behind in the quarterfinals by winning five of the last six matches against Beachwood. The match-changing wins included must-needed pins by Ethan Pappas (160), Keith Bodnar (195) and Spencer Ostovich (220).
Big Red would go on to fall to Louisville, 50-24, in the semifinals.
Three Steubenville wrestlers finished the day with perfect records. Pappas earned two pins and a technical fall. Bodnar had two pins and a forfeit on the day. Tyler Muldrew won by two decisions and a pin.
Louisville defeated Beaver Local, 54-21, in the finals to a earn a spot in the state dual tournament in Columbus.
Indian Creek was also tabbed to wrestle in the Division 12 tournament but withdrew before wrestling began on Saturday.
