Oct. 15--MOSSY HEAD -- A Walton County sheriff's deputy crashed his patrol car into a minivan on U.S. Highway 90 late Friday.

Deputy Matthew Amanovich was responding to a CPR in progress call when he ran into the rear of the van shortly after 11 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. 90 and Hinote Road, said Sheriff's Office spokesman Mike Morrison.

The driver of the van was not hurt, but two passengers were taken to the North Okaloosa Medical Center with minor injuries, he said.

Amanovich was taken to Sacred Heart Hospital on the Emerald Coast with minor injuries, Morrison said.

A witness reported that after the accident the patrol car ended up about 0.2 miles from the crash scene with the driver's-side door open. The deputy appeared to have a broken nose and seemed "very stunned," the witness said.

The witness also reported that a couple driving a red Mazda appeared to have seen the crash.

Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the collision.

After FHP issues a report, the Sheriff's Office crash review board should review it, allow the deputy to make a statement or provide additional information. The board's findings will be forwarded to the deputy's division chief for any disciplinary action, if warranted, according to a general order from the Sheriff's Office.

Morrison said he had not received any information from FHP as of noon Saturday.
