FORT HUNT, VA — Two residents are displaced after a Saturday Fort Hunt house fire that involved a ruptured oil tank in the garage.

Fairfax County and Alexandria fire department units responded to the 2100 block of Rampart Drive around 11:25 a.m. on Saturday. Firefighters found fire showing from the garage and extending to the attic at the single-family home. The situation was exacerbated by a running fuel fire from a ruptured fuel oil tank in the garage. That fire extended into the driveway, front yard, and a portion of the street.

One resident and a dog were home when the fire occurred. A pool service technician discovered the fire when arriving for service. The worker helped evacuate the resident and dog. One person was injured by dog bites during the evacuation.

Firefighters were able to get the blaze under control, and the fuel spill was contained using diking and damming procedures. No firefighters were injured.

Investigators determined the cause of the fire was an electrical event involving household wiring in the attic space above the garage. Damages were estimated to be $112,000.
