Georgia teen drowns in Cherokee County's Weiss Lake

Authorities say a 17-year-old Cave Spring, Georgia teenager has drowned at Weiss Lake in Alabama.

The Rome News Tribune reports the teen died Monday. His name is being withheld pending notification of family members.

Cherokee County Coroner Dr. Jeremy Deaton says the teen was playing a water game with friends near a pier at a residence on Big Nose Drive in Centre when he went under the water and never resurfaced.

Paramedics found the victim underneath the pier and worked to revive him but were unsuccessful.

Dr. Deaton says the body will be sent to the Alabama Department of Forensics Sciences Lab for an autopsy. Authorities are conducting an investigation into the incident.

Four men drowned last week in other incidents in Alabama.
