PORTLAND, Ind. – A Dunkirk woman and an Eaton man face meth-dealing charges in Jay County.

Andrea K. Sheets, 37, was arrested Sept. 7 by authorities investigating a report of meth and heroin being brought from Dayton, Ohio, to Portland.

According to a Portland Police Department report, after being arrested in a traffic stop in the 200 block of West Second Street, the Dunkirk woman removed from a body cavity three plastic bags containing a total of 16 grams of meth.

Also recovered was a plastic bag containing five grams of heroin.

She reportedly told an officer she “only dealt in narcotics as a hustle to survive, and that she knew she was going to prison for a long time.”

Sheets continued to be held in the Jay County jail on Sunday under a $70,000 bond.

She is charged in Jay Circuit Court with dealing in meth, a Level 2 felony carrying up to 30 years in prison, and dealing in a narcotic drug, a Level 3 felony with a maximum 16-year sentence. A trial date has not yet been set.

Sheets, formerly of Muncie and Redkey, has been convicted of battery, disorderly conduct, obtaining a controlled substance by fraud or deceit (twice), possession of marijuana and theft.

Also in Jay Circuit Court, Drew Patrick Mitchell, 21, of the 400 block of Est Babb Road in Eaton, is charged with dealing in meth, a Level 2 felony.

A Jay County sheriff’s deputy reported Mitchell, at the time the target of an arrest warrant, threw plastic bags containing meth shortly before he was apprehended Sept. 18 at Alexander and North streets in Portland.

Another bag containing meth was found in Mitchell’s sock while he was being processed at the Jay County jail. In all, 16 grams of meth were recovered.

Mitchell – who reportedly told a deputy he had been selling drugs for “two or three weeks” – continued to be held in the jail Sunday under a $40,000 bond.

The Delaware County man has twice been convicted of both possession of meth and theft.

His is also set to stand trial Dec. 4 in Blackford Superior Court on three charges – possession of meth, possession of a controlled substance and driving without ever receiving a license – filed in July.
